Best of the Best: Karate Championship Game Boy

Best of the Best

Best of the Best: Championship Karate (also known as Super Kick Boxing and The Kick Boxing) is a kick boxing game that features black belt kick boxing masters. It was originally released in 1990 in Europe as André Panza Kick Boxing.

The object is to win the kick boxing championship by defeating an array of kick boxing masters in a series of fighting matches. The Sega Genesis version is one of the few games to offer support for the Sega Activator motion controller.

Martial artist/actor Ron Yuan went as far as to state in a 1994 interview that "I know a lot of pure gamers will disagree, but the best SNES fighting game from a purely technical martial arts point of view is Best of the Best..... my friends and I know martial arts, and they go nuts whenever we play."

The aim of the game is to knock out the opponent in order to win the fight. The rules are simple, a round has a time limit of one minute, when you are too close the opponent or the opponent is temporarily knocked out, the fight is stopped. The referee will only start counting the fall when the opponent is knocked out.

The controls are as follows:

Dpad - Controls character's movement as well as attacks
Right - To move the character forward
Left - To move character backward
Down - To duck an attack (must be accurate when opponent is striking)
(Note: During the match, the Dpad is used to determine the sort of attacks you want.)
A - To attack or select something
Buttons - To select character, start a match, to attack (during a match).
Start - To pause the match during the fight
Select - To exit the place you are in

"Now is a beginning of a new fighting chapter. You are invited to the Kumate world championship where you face the world's best exponents with skill, speed and intelligence. From a rookie status, you are going to make a name for yourself in the ultimate world championship by competing against the best. From here you make a reputation of yourself and earn the money where famous fighters earned. And the main priority is to beat the best to win the titles and become a recognized champion as "The Best of the Best"."
